Peony woke up early on a Saturday, it was a hogsmeade weekend. So of course a lot of other students were headed into the town, but she was looking forward to getting out of the castle. She was glad because she could finally show off her new dress, that her father had picked out for her. He knew her tastes better then her mother. It was quite funny actually well at least it was to Peony. She dressed rather slowly, even though she was in a really big hurry, even though she woke up early. She wanted out of the school, because she got tired of seeing the same old people, and most of her friends were always off doing something else. So technically they weren't really friends of Peony's.
She finished getting dressed and walked hurriedly down the stairs like she was going to be late. Well as a matter of fact most of the other students were already waiting to leave. She reached the bottom as they were all getting ready to leave, she smiled and followed the rest of her school mates, not all of them in her house. She knew some, no where near knowing most or or even all of them. She was bright, but she kept more to herself. Peony fell behind some so she wasn't right up there with the rest of the students. She smiled and looked around to see if there was anyone else she knew, and what she should have been doing was watching what she was doing. She almost tripped over a rock, but she caught herself just in time, with her other foot so she didn't fall flat on her face. That was the last thing she needed was for her to be the laughing stock of the trip. She really hoped no one seen her almost fall that would be just as bad.

It was Saturday meaning relax and procrastinate day. Xayne had decided to accompany the hoard of students who went to visit the small village of Hogsmead which was nearby Hogwarts. A few teachers usually accompanied the students walk down, but it meant that he had a reason for his reluctance to marking. Oh how he hated marking with a fiery burning passion. As much as he loved his job he had to despise the actual proper Professor work, rather than just doing making his students go out and practice dueling or going into the forest so they could go on a survival trial game. It was all fun and games then, till you get to the paper work.
Xayne could still remember when he had his first defense against the dark arts lesson, and he had been enthralled ever since. The skillful mastering of his work had come will a lot of hard work but it paid off in the end. Xayne got to work the job he wanted to and that was his dream come true moment when he had been accepted as the new professor once he had his certificate from the ministry signifying his completion of the required course for a title as Professor. Xayne had wished his parents were alive to see him be inducted as a professor, they would have been proud. Unfortunately, Xayne had no real family to call his own, having left the foster care system when he was 17 to begin the life of living alone. But now, Xayne had a sort of family now, he had over 300 kids to look after now, who knew he could be so productive. Xayne always had a little chuckle at that thought, it amused him.
So there Xayne was, walking down the road with the students toward Hogsmead, his destination in mind being the Hogs Head so he could have a drink there without any of the younger kids seeing. He didn't want to have a bad image with them afterall. Straying to the back of the group to make sure there was no stragglers did he notice a familiar blonde girl trip on a rock. As she stumbled he held out an arm to stop her from falling face first as he made sure she didn't tumble over. "Woah now Miss Peony, I think someone has been having a little bit too much to drink. Slipped a bit too much fire whiskey into the morning coffee have we?" Xayne joked, righting the Ravenclaw student as he gave her a grin.

Peony felt a near her so she grabbed it so she could steady herself better, but didn’t realize at first just who’s arm she was grabbing. She looked up and smiled “Now for one I don’t drink coffee.” She said with a laugh, and then said “I can’t stand Fire whiskey.” She knew he was joking, and well what she said was the truth, but she had answered him. She straightened herself upright, and let go of his arm, and smoothed out her dress and continued walking again, so she didn’t fall to far behind, even though she was with a professor.
She looked at him sideways and said “Thank you, but I never tripped.” She was polite about it, she didn’t want everyone to know, and she didn’t need to become the laughing stock of the trip. She would probably die from embarrassment, even though she was quite sure that it was almost impossible to do, but one never knows. Peony moved more cautiously because of the last rock, so she didn’t fall again, or rather almost fall again, and have Xayne save her once again, even though she wouldn’t have minded.
It was a stupid student crush, the ones where the student likes the professors, but of course would never ever tell them. Over the years she learned to keep her cool around some of the good looking, or even classified hot professors. In class every once in a while she would day dream, or just stare at him, but they were in class so it would seem like she was paying attention, but never really was. Which might have been why she had to work so hard after his class was over to make sure she got high marks on her exams. “So did you ever get those exams marked up yet?” She asked him just wondering if he had, and if he would tell her what she got. She had a feeling I wasn’t going to be her best mark at all. [/blockquote]

"Good, I'd be afraid to think that young Miss Peony would be drinking fire whiskey," he jokingly said in reply, "a bit too young to be party, especially since she has so much homework to be doing..." He trailed off with a wink. Xayne tried to never set too much homework because he knew that some of the other Professors were hard asses and set the students shit loads of work to do, he didn't want to only add to that stress.
"Ah, sorry, thought you were going to fall over," Xayne said in his defence, "can't be called a true gentleman if I let a lady fall over infront of me now can I?" He smiled at the young girl, trying to show that he wasn't trying to make fun nor point out that she had nearly tripped over, merely that he was just trying to be of help. He was a Professor after all, and besides, he actually liked the students he taught unlike some of his fellow colleagues who merely complained about the constant annoyance of young teens.
As they continued to walk down to Hogsmead Xayne stuck his hands in his pockets, whistling to himself brightly. It was beautiful weather, which was suprising for Scotland considering it was overcast most days, so it lifted Xayne's spirits immensly. "Oh, those dreaded exams..." Xayne said with an exaggerated sigh of exhaustion, "well you see, I'm suppossed to be marking them right now but I'm being naughty and am going to procrastinate down in Hogsmead for the day."

Peony laughed when he said she was a bit to young to be partying, and with all the homework she had. “Well I guess that’s where a lot of the sleepless nights we ravenclaws have, party first then homework all night long.” She replied jokingly, knowing most of their times were spent studying and not really partying, even though some students did. Peony one of them but only if it was on a weekend she didn’t need to ruin her week.
Peony looked at him and shook her head, “If anyone asks I didn’t fall, that is the last thing I need is for everyone to think I’m a klutz. I managed to keep it away from the Slytherins for this long.” She said looking at him knowing that all he was trying to do was help her out, and she was fine with that, she was more than fine. “We need more gentlemen in the world, not enough of them.” She informed him, which was true the world needed more people like Xayne.
Peony looked hopeful when he started to talk about the exams, but it was gone quickly, because he hadn’t marked them yet. So she wouldn’t be able to find out what she got on her exam then. “Well when you mark them, don’t be shocked when you get to mine, I don’t think I did very well at all.” She said, with a depressed look on her face. She had studied the material, but when she took the test she couldn’t remember a thing and that was the only test that it had ever happened to her on. She was still stumped at why it happened. She had a suspicion that a group of Slytherins were behind it but had no way to prove it.

"For sure, you Ravens will have to keep it down up in the tower, keeping the rest of the castle up all night with your furious scribbling of notes," Xayne commented. He had never really spoken at length with Peony and he was finding that the young girl was suprisingly humourous for someone who Xayne had assumed to be the quiet one. Peony was a good student, but she was quiet most of the time but paid attention, if her looking at him meant she was focusing.
"I doubt your a klutz," Xayne said with a smile, "everyone can stumble, hell, even I have face planted more than a few times." He grinned when she said that there needed to be more gentlemen in the world. "Ay, that there should be." Xayne had been brought up mostly by foster parents being bumped from one family to the next until he was 17 when he was withdrawn from the system, legally being able to live on his own. He still could remember what his parents said to him though, and he always followed by what they had taught to him as a child.
"I'm sure you did fine Miss Peony," Xayne said in reassurance.

Peony laughed at his comment about the scribbling. This was the longest conversation she had with any of her professors. It was quite fun to talk to them, they were more then just sticks in the mud. “Well you know us ravenclaws, full of knowledge and if we don’t know we find it out.” Peony smiled at her comment, knowing that most of her fellow classmates would know just about everything, and if they didn’t know they would surly find out what it meant or what the answer was.
Peony smiled when he said that he face planted a few times. “I can fall going up steps, that takes true talent.” She said while she laughed, because it was true. “Before the term started I fell in to the lake because I wasn’t watching and apparently I can’t levitate when I want to so I don’t fall into things.” She informed him, it was a nightmare sometimes, but she dealt with it. She thought for a moment when he agreed with her about there needing to be more good guys in the world. If there was more guys like Xayne she probably would never fall into the lake or face plant on the ground not really sure what they would do for falling up steps, but at least they would be there for when she got hurt. She needed to find herself a good guy.
Peony was thinking I didn’t do just fine when he said he thought she did just fine on it. But she didn’t want to ruin his day by talking about the stupid exam that she probably failed. “You’re probably right.” She said with a small expiration of her breath. She didn’t want to make anyone’s day miserable even if her own was kind of miserable. The only thing that wasn’t is the fact that she was talking to Xayne.
