Daniel was bored. He hadn't felt the urge to go to Hogsmeade like his friends. He had instead decided to relax. He had been swamped with work recently and the day was a nice one. There was actual heat in the sun so as he walked along the shores of the black lake he was able to take off his sweatshirt and walk around with just a shirt on and jeans.
He watched as the lake sparkled in the sun and the beauty of it really got to him. He loved the black lake, it was where he came for inspiration, where he came whenever he felt himself lose faith. In his seven years at Hogwarts it had always been there for him, giving him what he wanted. He had met his first girlfriend there, lost his virginity there and spent many afternoons there with his friends.
He was broken from his thoughts when he heard a splash. He looked up to see only one other person on the isolated shores. He had walked for a while and not many people ventured this far. In front of him was a girl, younger than he was and he assumed she had caused the splash though he had no idea. He didn't mind, he put a smile on his face.
"Hey there, I'm Daniel." He said, loving meeting new people.

Zahra needed to think. Her life had all of a sudden gone crazy. She had her family back. Her real family. Well, not her family, but her Jamie. Her big brother, he was back in her life and he was going to take her away from her adoptive parents. She didn't have to go back with them again. Zahra was so relieved, she didn't fit in with them. But there was one problem with moving back with Jamie. It wasn't going to be just them... there was going to be some girl too. Jamie's girlfriend. Abby was her name apparently. It was strange, Zahra never really imagined that Jamie might have a girlfriend. To her that just seemed weird, her big brother actually having a steady thing in his life.
She was a little jealous. She had never had that. Not even after being adopted. She made her way out to the grounds for a walk. She had been tempted to go for a run, but it was quite warm out, and she didn't cope well doing her runs in the heat. In summer that was especially annoying, she had to wait until nightfall to go out for a run. Walking or running without a purpose was where Zahra sorted her head out. She let her thoughts fall into place. Today she had walked, and walked, until she realised that if she kept walking she might not find her way back.
So she was sitting on a rock, just staring out at the rippling water. Her hair fell in loose waves down her back, she ran a hand through her hair and sighed, she couldn't make sense of anything in her life. Zahra picked up a rock and threw it hard, as far out into the water as she could manage. In made a loud splashing noise, disrupting the silence that had previously surrounded her. She quickly stood and spun around when she heard someone call out to her. She hadn't been expecting to see anyone this far out on the shore. He looked older than her, tall, muscular, all round gorgeous really, not that Zahra would let him know she thought so. "Hi," She said back to the boy, Daniel he said his name was. "I'm Zahra." She told him, looking him over. "What are you doing here, so far out?" She asked conversationally.

As the girl looked over at him, Daniel had to blink at her beauty. She was really something and he swore he had never seen someone as beautiful as her. There were a lot of good looking people at Hogwarts but none of them, older or younger, looked anything like the girl in front of him. Of course that reaction all happened in the space of a second and he was sure other than his surprised blink nothing had given it away.
He was thankful she spoke and didn't reject or scoff at him. It was weird, feeling at the mercy of a younger girl. He didn't usually give too much thought to those younger than him, not caring if they despised him or not. However he had subconsciously decided that he did care what this girl thought. He didn't know whether that was a good or bad thing.
"What a beautiful name." He said truthfully. "I'm just walking. The lake is beautiful and there's no better way to admire it than from it's shores."
As soon as he finished speaking he cursed himself. He sounded like a right twat talking about the lake's beauty. What girl wanted him to talk like shakespeare? That wasn't what girls were into. He looked toward the lake, half concealing his face from her view. He then started to curse himself for caring whether she liked what he said or not. She was just some girl he met by the lake though he had to remember, the lake had given him a lot in the past.
"What about you? What year are you?" He asked.

Zahra was grateful that she managed to refrain from blushing when the older boy said that she had a beautiful name. It was something that she would do, blush like that, it would be embarrassing, so she was grateful it hadn't happened. She held back a smirk and a laugh when the boy- Daniel, even- started talking about the lake, saying how beautiful it was, getting properly poetic about it. She just knew he was a Gryffindor.
She could feel it. Only a Gryffindor would spout that kind of poetic crap. The people in her house were blunt. Ravenclaws wouldn't venture this far from the library and a Hufflepuff would be too afraid to approach her in the first place! He looked away from her and Zahra could instinctively tell that he was embarrassed, nervous even. Why would a sexy older slytherin be nervous around her? She was just Zahra, she was pretty average looking, fourteen and with a completely messed up past.
She looked over to him when he finally looked back to her, asking about what year she was in, she ran a hand through her hair, pushing it off of her face, squinting a little at the sunlight. "I'm in fourth year, Slytherin." She told him, glancing over at him, he had easy good looks. He didn't have to try at all, you could tell. He must have had girls all but falling at his feet. he was the hair, and the eyes. The eyes were captivating at the hair was as such that you just wanted to run your fingers through it. "What about you, then? House, age, random hobbies you want to throw in?" She joked, a genuine smile on her face, something that didn't happen all that often.

Daniel could see her reaction to his words and cursed himself once more before deciding the only thing to do was act cool about it. He had meant what he said and if she couldn't handle that then no loss. He didn't even know the kid. His eyebrows raised when she said fourth year. She was only 14? She looked older than 14 though he had known she was younger. She was also a slytherin. He had no prejudice against other houses, he wouldn't of minded being in any of them.
He then chuckled at her next comment. She was definitely a cute one. He gave her a look though it was full of laughter.
"Seventh year gryffindor and long walks on the beach." He added with a wink.
He decided then that it was okay to sit down. He didn't sit too close and while she was on a rock he sat on the ground. He let the warmth soak over him, glad that there was no autumn chill. He looked up at the younger girl, wondering if she was surprised an older boy was showing interest in her.
"You never answered my question, why are you this far along the lake?" He asked.
